Wednesday Night Waltz (Traditional, U.S.)

0 ratings

This lovely waltz dates back to at least 1927. While not complex melodically, the rich chord progression offers some surprises and is a bit challenging! I hope you will study it a bit and use the tune to learn all the chords in the piece – and how they are connected. The harmonization is an excellent example of some of the many chord options we have beyond I, IV, V and ii, iv, vi to include secondary dominants with circle of fifths chord movement, diminished 7ths and the parallel minor. The flow of chords really makes sense once you understand the logic. In this piece, I emphasize connecting the arranging ideas, the backup and the melody to “see” the chords. Take your time! There is so much to be learned by exploring this piece. The waltz dates back to at least 1927.
