Wayfaring Stranger (Am) (American gospel)
This iconic American spiritual possibly dates to the late 1700’s or early 1800’s. The melody is relatively simple, but it does have some timing challenges. We have LOTS to digest here but we think it will be well worth the effort! We cover the theory of the aeolian mode (Am) and the chord progression rationale (including the dominant 7th chord in Am (E7) and the concept of “lift” (Am to F); descending/ascending bass lines). We cover the hammering rationale, an intro/outro, hand separation, multiple arrangements (using drones arpeggio fills, melodic runs, two & three note chords, valley rolls, descending & ascending bass lines), and a backup.
