Valse Pompadour (Alfred Montmarquette, Quebec)
This lovely tune came to me from my playing partner and talented Quebecois fiddler, Laura Risk. The piece comes from the playing of Alfred Montmarquette who made his mark on Quebecois music with his accordion playing and wonderful tunes. There is so much here in this challenging piece. Please take your time digesting the melody, the chord progression, arranging ideas, and backup. The chord progression is very challenging featuring secondary dominants, an augmented chord, a diminished 7th chord and some unexpected movement. This spectacularly beautiful tune is hugely popular among Quebecois musicians. Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kbtOwsN6es
