Southwind (Traditional, Ireland)

For this widely played tune, I explore the use of a far more adventurous chord progression than is commonly used. This piece offers an excellent opportunity to demonstrate what is possible when thinking a bit out of the box. I present a wide variety of separate versions using one idea at a time: (1) a two-note chord version; (2) a three-note chord version; (3) a “fills” version; and (4) an example of a fuller arrangement. The idea is to nail down each technique separately before fully integrating the ideas. This contrasts with the “full-model” approach to learning arranging concepts.
