Salt Spring (John Reischman, U.S)

John Reischman recorded the tune in 2001. Despite its relatively new life, Salt Springs is a remarkably hot tune in Bluegrass circles and well-beyond. When we taught this piece at all our Sandbridge weeks, it was a huge hit! The piece fits the HD perfectly in the original key of A. The piece works well for players of all levels. You can take it as far as you want to go with this extensive set of video lessons. We cover the hammering for the melody which uses a left-hand lead, offering some significant advantages in the arrangements. We present a basic arrangement and many variations, using two approaches to the chord progression. Our discussion of the chord progression highlights the somewhat unusual nature of the sequence. In addition to the hammering for the melody, the two progressions, we cover two backup approaches, and lots of arranging ideas. The backup uses a variety of ideas to exploit a fun bassline. While this tune has lots of space, we try not to fill it all! BUT it sure makes it fun to add lots of arpeggios, tenths, and other fun stuff.
