Round the Horn (Jay Ungar, U.S.)

0 ratings

Jay Ungar’s best known piece is of course that “Civil War” tune written in 1983: Ashokan Farewell. Round the Horn is well-known among contra dance musicians and beyond. Helicon recorded it on our Helicon’s Winter Solstice Celebration (1999). The tune is a bit unusual in that it does not resolve and ends on the relative minor to G (Em). In these videos, I present a basic arrangement, explore the concept of left hand lead and some of the many possibilities that this hammering facilitates, and a backup.
