A Roof for the Rain (Ken Kolodner)
I recorded “Roof” many years ago with Laura Risk & Keith Murphy on A Roof for the Rain and then again with my son on Otter Creek (2011).
This piece is all about “groove”, shifting accents off the primary counts, using anticipations and playing with drive – without pounding! It is an excellent piece to “see” the chord progression in the structure of the melody. Using a left-hand lead, we create a basic arrangement that effectively communicates the chord progression. The tune ends unresolved on the V chord. The tune works for players of all levels.
