Kevin Keegan’s (Kevin Keegan/Ireland & US)

This spectacular three-part waltz came to me at local Irish sessions in Baltimore via the great button accordion player Billy McComiskey. Billy learned the tune from the influential accordionist Kevin Keegan (1924–20 December 1978). I recorded Kevin Keegan’s on Walking Stones (1997, reissued in 2006). The piece is a wonderful vehicle for exploring arranging ideas that highlight the lovely chord progression. Look out for the surprise use of a diminished 7th chord.
