Hommage à Edmund Parizeau (Marcel Messervier, Canada)

This fantastic and twisty composition of accordionist Marcel Messervier is a favorite among contra dance musicians and in the Quebecois music scene. This piece requires us to accent precisely with either hand equally well while maintaining swing. It is not sufficient to nail down only the accents: we have to maintain swing as well! I created a rather complex backup that also must be phrased and accented very precisely. And that is what I try to communicate in the lessons! Find someone to play this with and be sure to have the backup ready. As a bonus, I hope you will explore some of those variations. It is at first a hard tune to explore because of the risk of losing the tune! But with some time, you can get there. Still, I would be a little careful straying too far from the melody. While this is a long way from Liberty and Golden Slippers, you will find many others who know this tune. And the long journey will be well worth it!
