This waltz has a very challenging chord progression but it is an absolutely fantastic study of chords and how they are connected. The harmonization is an excellent example of the many chord options we have beyond I, IV, V and ii, iv, vi to include major 7ths, minor 7ths, dominant 7ths, augmented chords, suspensions, diminished 7ths and secondary dominants. We have all of those chords in this one tune! Crazy eh?! I hope you will plow through both the arranging ideas and the backup and “see” the chords in all of it. Take your time! There is so much to be learned by exploring this piece. The waltz was written by the fiddler of The Skillet Lickers, one of the first string bands to be recorded.
