O’Carolan often did not follow a predictable form in his compositions. So his music takes some time to digest but the effort is always worth it. The tune is a bit unusual in that it ends on the V chord but the harmonization is otherwise fairly straightforward. My goal in this O’Carolan piece is to strike a balance by using a variety of ideas to present the chord progression and enhance the beauty of the tune but also to be careful not to obscure the beauty of the composition with too many melodic variations. Still, I can’t resist doing some!
