Dull Chisel (Garry Harrison, U.S.)

0 ratings

Garry Harrison wrote lots of cool tunes that have become standards in the old-time world - Red Prairie Dawn, Boy Them Buzzards are Flying and The Dull Chisel. I teach this tune by trying to get students to “see” the chord progression. E.g., the A part features an opening “IV chord” arpeggio; then the melody hovers on an E (suggesting a I chord), then hovers on a B (suggested the V chord). The backup is simple using various forms of the chords to create bass lines. I hope you will find it satisfying and effective. Let’s jam this one!
