The Cradle Song (James Scott Skinner, (1843-1927), Scotland)

If you have never tackled hand separation, learn this piece! The Cradle Song is a great example of using a “root to fifth” ostinato for hand separation. Also included is a backup. This is a great piece for players of all levels. James Scott Skinner was one of the seminal figures in the development of Scottish traditional music. I recorded this tune with the fabulous Mark Grobner on Sunrise (2011).
